Motel Rocks Holiday Picks!

I'm super ill right now, but wanted to do a post because when you're ill you get bored easily and even though I wish I had something great to review or talk about I don't :( so instead I thought I'd talk about something I love so so very much and that is MOTEL.

I've been searching their website for great items of clothing for my jolly holidays (as I'm sure a few of you have done lately) and wanted to share my top picks with you!

I seriously LOVE their Made In Hell t-shirts, I think their slogans are hilarious and I really want the PRADUH shirt so much. Their new swimsuit section is also so pretty and I want almost everything on there! I really do like Motel's Summer range and I think it's worth a look at if you are going on your holidays soon and want to look stylish!

Are you going on holiday soon? What're your favourite things to wear on your jollies?

I don't normally ask for favours on here but this is for my wonderful big sister. She's getting married soon to the love of her life after over 10 years together and they have entered a local competition on facebook to win a Candy Cart at her wedding. Now her photo is on just over 70 likes, but the people in the lead are on like 100, so we're looking for some likes on her picture to they can win! IF YOU LOVE ME PLEASE TAKE TWO SECONDS OUT OF YOUR SCHEDULE TO LIKE THE PAGE AND THE PICTURE.

Once on that page you need to like the page and then go into albums and find the untitled album. My sisters photograph is the first one. A girl with dark hair and a bald headed man.

Please please then go on and like that photo. It would mean the absolute world to her and I really want her to win because it would just be so amazing.

So please, if you can...

Tortoise FAQ

This is a little bit of a change from my normal posts but as I get A LOT of questions on here, Instagram and especailly on Tumblr about my babies I thought I'd do a quick FAQ post. So if you're one of those overly obsessive animal people (like myself) hold on for a thrill ride of tortoise questions and answers.

Tortoise Profiles

This is Sid and he is about 7/8 years old.  Sid was my first ever tortoise which I got in January of this year after years and years and years of begging my parents for a tortoise. He has metabolic bone disease which means as a baby he was fed the wrong food and given the wrong care which has resulted in a deformed shell. The bottom of his mouth is also deformed as his previous owners did not cut his beak, therefore the bottom of his mouth didn't get chance to grow. Sid will always be slighting disabled but he is a lovely tort. And without being over the top about this - he is the love of my life.

And this is Domino. He is my newest baby and he literally is a baby. When I went to pick him up, I was told by his owner that he was 2 years old. He is not 2 years old, after much research we have found out that he is actually younger than a year old. He is absolutely tiny and very shy because of how young he is. Thankfully I received him before any damage could be done to him. At the moment, we aren't actually sure if Domino is male or female as he is too young to sex but...hey he looks like a boy!

Where are they housed?

All tortoises should be housed in a tortoise table. Vivariums (like those you would buy for a snake or chameleon) are not recommended housing because it restricts their airflow. Also tortoises don't understand the concept of glass so it stops them getting confused - and trust me they get very confused and anxious. Unfortunately Sid is in a viv at the moment because I am lacking in money until my next loan comes in, he was bought with the viv but that was back when I knew nothing about tortoises. When I get the money I will be building a massive two story table and I cannot wait!

Are they housed together?

No they aren't. Purely because Domino is too young and Sid is quite boisterous when he want's to be. Regardless of Sid's attitude if Domino ends up being female they will only ever meet two weeks out of the year because I don't want hundreds of tortoise babies running around here, and if he is actually male they won't be able to be housed together because they will fight. Tortoises are actually solitary creatures and in the wild would not meet another tortoise apart from to have sex.

What do they eat?

This is a super important question especially if you are looking into getting a tortoise, my main advice is DO NOT LISTEN TO WHAT PET SHOPS TELL YOU. They know nothing, they are only there to make money, they do not care about the welfare of your animal - I have had to find this out the hard way. Pet shops will recommend pellets or fruit and veg. Neither of these are suitable and can have serious effects on tortoises. In the wild a tortoise would eat various edible weeds and flowers. This is the diet that my two are now on, after much fussing and changing they are finally becoming healthy little boys. I'm even growing plants in my room so that they always have fresh food available.

Aren't they boring?

No. One of my friend's recently said "I don't get why everyone likes tortoises, they are boring". They are not. At all. They have their down days, like everybody else. Some days I don't even see them because they are sleepy animals but as soon as you get them out of their enclosures they go crazy. Running around and hiding and climbing. They are so much fun to watch and so friendly. Sid always comes for a snuggle or a sunbathe. Also they listen to you talking to them, and you can tell because they lift up their little heads and stare at you. It's so cute. They are not boring. They are also super super fast. A common misconception is that they are really slow but that's just a myth. I can be outside with them and if I stop watching them for one minute I will lose them.

Can they feel inside their shell?

Yes. They can feel about the same as you can when you run your finger over a finger or toe nail. You can tickle them on their shells and they will wiggle about. So cute.

Are they expensive to keep?

Yes. If done properly. I would say in the last 6 months I have spent about £1000 all together, but that was for setting them up properly. Once all set up they don't cost much, just the price of soil and lights which isn't much really. They are honestly worth the price.

Did you get them from a pet shop?

No neither. And I would advice NOBODY to buy from a pet shop. They tend to be imported into england from various other countries which means the tortoise won't be in the best of health. It's more likely to become ill within 6 months and die, which is not what you want. Always buy from a registered breeder - it's also cheaper to do so anyway. Do not conform to pet shops!

Do they shed?

Yes. All reptiles shed their skin. Fortunately for a tortoise it's not as gross and they shed in stages so you're less likely to notice it, in comparison to a snake where they shed all at once and ew it's so mingin.

If Domino turns out to be a girl would you ever breed them?

It's a possibility for the future. If Sid is in better health then yes I wouldn't mind. I know a lot of my friends who have come round to meet the tortoise children and have left begging for a baby tortoise of their own! It's hard not to love them and just think of how tiny their babies would be. Super cute.

Why do you like tortoises so much?

If you ever met my two, you'd know why. They're both so lovely and cheeky. Always wanted a cuddle or to play. Chasing eachother up the garden or nipping at my toes. They are like dogs only fluffy. I can't imagine being happy now without them. I just love them so much. They're my little children.

DIY Beachy Sea-Salt Spray!

Want lovely beachy hair without having to actually go to the beach? Want to buy a sea-salt spray but cry, cry, cry they're just too expensive? Solution - make it yourself!

Here is a little tried and tested recipe for you to make your own sea-salt spray! And not only does it work fantastically but my god does it smell delicious!

You will need:

8 fl oz of warm tap water
Conditioner - preferably something that has a beachy smell (coconut) or a strong smell
Fine sea salt
Hair gel
Table spoon
Jug
Spray bottle

Firstly you need to measure out 8 fl oz of warm tap water. Do this by using the jug and keep the water in there for the time being. Make sure the water is warm enough so that the salt will dissolve properly.

Next you need to add the sea salt. Pour the salt onto your table spoon and make sure you fill the whole spoon. It is a full table spoon for each 8 fl oz, so if you want to make double the mixture use two table spoons. You can also add a bit more salt if you have thicker or longer hair, but remember the more you use the more likely it is to dry out your hair. Add the salt to the warm water and stir until dissolved.

Now it's time to add the conditioner. You really want to be using a cheaper conditioner just because they tend to be thinner and will mix properly, but any conditioner will do (you'll just have to shake the bottle a bit more). Use a coconut conditioner for the typical beachy smell or if not, make sure you use a conditioner with a strong scent so your hair will smell nice! You need to add half a table spoon of conditioner to the warm water, and then mix together. Adding the conditioner will counter-act most of the drying out that the sea-salt will do to your hair.

Next add the hair gel. Cheaper is better for this as well. You only need to add about a quarter of the table spoon, not much at all. Mix this into the warm water.

Now you can take your mixture and pour it into the spray bottle. Be careful and make sure you don't spill any (like I did! What a waste)

And lastly, put the lid on the bottle and give it a shake!! This will ensure that all of the products have properly dissolved into the water.

Yay! Now you're done! Apply the mixture to dry hair, scrunch it up with your fingers and let it dry! Now you have lovely beachy, wavy hair!

Life Update!

My life right now / Selfie / TDR playing at Blackburn Fest / TDR interview / Sorted my makeup out / Sid being naughty / Selfie #2 / Reading Material / Domino hiding

Hello sweet-peas! I hope you are all well! I don't have much to write so I thought I'd do a quick life update for you all - I know you are all super interested (not.)

I've been pretty busy this week. On Wednesday I went to the recording/practise studio with Kieron's band The Dark Rooms and I interviewed them for a documentary I'm making for Uni. It was super exciting and so much fun. We had such a laugh but my GOD there is going to be a lot of bloopers!

Tomorrow I'm going Charity crazy! I'm going to the Rossendale Relay For Life and then at night time I will be going to my friend Ashley's for a MacMillan Night In - you know those ones they advertise on tv, you stay in and give to charity the amount you'd spend on a night out! I'm excited about this but mostly because I haven't seen my girls all week and need a good catch up and goss!

I take my theory test in 8 days too. I am so unprepared. I don't even have one of those DVDs to practise with so I'm literally going to have to wing it. So annoying but oh well. I'm feeling sort of prepared. My driving instructor reckons I'll be able to take my actual driving test pretty much straight away if I pass my theory which is insane, doesn't feel like I've been learning for very long!!

Also I forgot to write but last week I got my results back from Uni for my first year, I GOT A FIRST. YEEEEEE. WHOOHOO!!

I've also broken my space bar on my laptop. I'm having to really push it in and it's so annoying. I am not a happy bunny about this :( I really need a new laptop, the other night smoke was coming out of it :( someone buy me a laptop? I'll be your best friend!?

xx

John Frieda - Everlasting Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner

About
Sheer Blonde® Everlasting Blonde Colour Preserving Shampoo & Conditioner preserves your freshly-coloured blonde for up to 12 weeks. With safflower oil and bergamot extract, this colour preserving formula helps keep your blonde from fading while leaving hair soft. For all shades of colour-treated or highlighted blonde hair.

I was very lucky to receive a few packets of John Frieda's Everlasting Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner a few weekends back and ever since receiving them I've wanted to do a review!

From the first second I applied the shampoo onto my head I LOVED IT! It smelt lovely and instantly made my hair feel silky and smooth (which never, ever happens with shampoo!) and then after adding the conditioner I could instantly feel a change in the condition of my hair. It just felt so, so nice. It didn't weigh my hair down or make it feel greasy, it just felt soooo nice.

I blow-dried my hair and could see a great difference. My blonde (which I had originally dyed dark blonde) was extremely bright, it looked absolutely gorgeous and my hair felt bouncy, soft and completely tangle-free.

Although I haven't yet bought this product, I definitely will be doing. I'm always looking for great hair products and these really hit the mark for me. I'm really, really happy with the way they've reacted to my hair and I'd like to continue using them forever and ever!

Herbal Essences - Beautiful Ends Cream

After trying the Herbal Essences - Bee Strong Strengthing Mask, I thought I'd try another product from Herbal Essences. This time at Asda for £2.50 (BARGAIN BARGAIN BARGAIN!) I picked up their Beautiful Ends Split End Protection Cream.

As you probably have already realised - I am not a real blonde and therefore my hair has been bleached and dyed hundreds of times which has effected it's condition. My split ends are always the worst, no matter what I do, so I felt like this cream would be a good investment.

The packaging is a super cute red bottle made of plastic. It's 150ml so it's quite big but not too big that you can't fit it in a makeup/hair product bag. It has a little pump on the top which helps to dispense the product evenly.

The cream is a thick almost gel like texture which you apply to the ends of your hair after towel or blow-drying. It spreads evenly on the hair although it is quite sticky and waxy when applying. It absorbs pretty quickly though and leaves the ends of your hair feeling smooth and silky. Do not apply too much of this because it will build-up and make your hair feel greasy and weigh it down, you literally need to use about a pea-sized amount of product.  The cream smells lovely too of raspberries, and it's a smell that lingers for a few hours which is great because I love nice smelling hair!

I can't yet say if this has improved the condition of my hair. I can say that my hair is smoother and looks nicer so I guess that's a plus. I've only used this for the last few days so I'm guessing my hair will start to improve it's condition after a few more uses (hopefully), on that I will keep you updated.

This is such a nice product and for £2.50 you really can't go wrong!

Herbal Essences - Bee Strong Strengthening Mask

As you know, I'm always looking for new hair products to make my hair stronger and ... well stop falling out, so when I saw this on sale for £2.50 I snapped it right up.

This is Herbal Essences own conditioning mask called Bee Strong. It is a strengthening intensive mask enriched with honey and apricot extracts which aims to add nourishment and strength to overly damaged hair. It also promises 10x stronger hair after the first wash.

The packaging is adorable. A bright yellow tub full of goodness! The mask itself is a thick, smooth formula with a beautiful honey scent that sticks around after use. I used quite a lot of product the first time, maybe two small scoops and lathered it on my head. My hair almost instantly felt soft to touch. There is no guidance on how long to keep this mask on for, so as usual I left it on for just over 10 minutes (I do this with all conditioners, because the longer you leave it on the more effect they're going to have!). I had a cheeky read of my book in the bath and relaxed whilst the mask attempted to fix my awfully broken hair.

I really liked this product, mostly because it didn't leave my hair feeling greasy. In fact, it had quite the opposite effect and after blow-drying and brushing my hair felt thick and smooth. I can tell you now that my hair never, ever feels thick. So this was very exciting for me. My hair instantly looked healthier and shinier. I was so, so impressed and only after one wash!

On another note: please don't forget that my blog sale ends in 24 hours! Dresses are still at 99p!
